The phone rings. It's DCRO. Can you go and have a look down P0? We think there's a horse down there... and there was! Despite throwing it's self down the 20ft deep entrance there wasn't a mark on it. It was just very thirsty and hungry. A few buckets of water and fodder later it was happy and ready to be rescued. When we'd finished 8 hours later we were thirsty and hungry. A few buckets of beer and fodder later we were happy....Photo: Shaun Puckering 29/06/1992 Enlarge

Alsop's Cave, Eldon Hill Quarry, Derbyshire. This cave was discovered when quarrying intersected a large sediment filled 2m diameter passage. This was quarried away but it's existence lead to the later discovery of Sidetrack Cave in 2002.Photo: Dave Nixon 1994 Enlarge
Treasury Sump, Peak Cavern. This 30m long sump to the Lower Bung Streamway in Speedwell Cavern. Conditions in the sump can vary, making it anything from an easy dive in a roomy passage to a desperately tight grovel. A good flood usually clears it out!Photo: Tim Hallam 2002 Enlarge
